The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) has directed the police to probe the audio clips of cricket coach Narendra Shah, in which he can be heard allegedly speaking inappropriately to a girl student.

The chairperson of USCW Kusum Kandwal said on Sunday that she recently came to know about some alleged audio clips of cricket coach and convener of junior women cricket Narendra Shah considering which, she talked to DIG P Renuka to investigate the matter as it involves young women. She said that though no complaint has been registered in the commission so far regarding the matter, she has asked the DIG to conduct an in-depth investigation to find out the truth and take action against the responsible party accordingly.

Kandwal said that the DIG informed her that the coach Narendra Shah, who allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at his Nehru Colony home on Friday, is still on ventilator support in Government Doon Medical College hospital. Renuka said that the police will interrogate Shah as soon as his health gets better but the police so far have neither received the viral audio clips nor any evidence against the coach, said the USCW head. Kandwal said that the commission supports women who want to achieve something in their field of choice, especially women belonging to mountainous areas of the State.

The commission will not tolerate any kind of misbehaviour or harassment towards women and has asked authorities to take stringent action against such offenders after carrying out a thorough investigation, added Kandwal.
