The subsidence affected natives of Joshimath met the Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt and stated that they own lands around the town, considering which they are not ready to be resettled away from Joshimath. The locals met Bhatt who reached Joshimath on Saturday and informed him of the various issues they are facing.

During a meeting they had with the BJP State president, the native residents reiterated that they will not shift away from Joshimath because apart from the land-subsidence affected land, they also own lands in places from Marwadi to Sunil-Auli-Gaunkh and from Hosi Ravigram to Manoti-Auli. These lands are located in secure green zones, they said.

The natives also demanded that all construction activities undertaken after prohibition on construction imposed last year after the subsidence should be investigated and that all construction works should be stopped in the area. The sale and purchase of land should also be prohibited in the area, they demanded. The BJP State president assured the locals that he will raise their issues with the chief minister and the Disaster Management secretary in order to find a solution.
