Cong protests against “anti-Dalit” policies of Govt

The Uttarakhand Congress SC cell organised a demonstration in Dehradun on Tuesday against what is called the anti -Dalit policies of the State government. Senior leaders of the Congress party participated in the protest and Dharna held at the Gandhi Park on the day.

Addressing the party workers, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Dalits, backward sections, minorities, poor and youth are worst affected during the BJP regime. He said that prices are spiralling and the poor have to struggle hard to have two square meals in a day. Mahara said that on one hand former president of Congress party Rahul Gandhi is engaging in public awareness on the issues of Dalits, SCs and tribes by undertaking Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is adopting an apathetic attitude.

 The leader of opposition (LoP) in state assembly Yashpal Arya said that the incident of Belada village in Roorkee in which a Dalit youth lost his life when he was beaten by Police has exposed the State government and the pathetic law and order situation in the State. He said that dalits, women and SC are not safe in the BJP government.

 Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the law and order situation has derailed in the State and there is no fear in the hearts of the criminals. He said that the schemes of Dalit welfare launched by the Congress government were closed one by one by the BJP government.

Former MP Pradeep Tamta said that the BJP has only engaged in the politics of dividing people in religious and caste lines. He said that the Dalits are feeling neglected today as the State government is continuing to adopt an insensitive attitude towards them.

 Bhagwanpur MLA Mamta Rakesh said that the Congress party is standing shoulder to shoulder with the deprived sections of the society.

The president of SC cell of Congress party Darshan Lal said that the incidents of oppression against Dalits and poor are increasing in the BJP government. He said that the BJP government closed the Surendra Rakesh and Bahadur Ram Tamta scholarship schemes started by the Congress government.
