DICCC to enhance public services in city with the use of latest technology
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the Dehradun integrated command and control centre (DICCC) Sadaiv Doon of the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) at IT Park here on Friday. He also unveiled the foundation stone for Doon centre of excellence at the site on the occasion. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the state’s Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise for an IT incubation centre.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that considering the growth of various aspects in urban areas the need for smart cities is natural. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken forward such important projects like smart city. With work underway in 100 cities across India under the smart city mission, the demand for developing other cities into smart cities also has increased especially considering the good results in the cities where the project is being executed. The nation is today progressing in all spheres due to the clear vision and determination of the PM. Referring to growing pressure of traffic in the state, Rawat said that there is a limit to use of force and widening of roads to address this issue. In such a scenario, the use of technology is vital to address traffic issues and other aspects. The smart city model will prove effective in improving facilities and redressing public grievances. He also suggested that the scope of the incubation centre for which the MoU was signed should not be limited to IT alone but should also encompass other spheres.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary of Urban Development and Housing, Government of India, Durga Shankar Mishra said that the services of the DICCC will bring about considerable improvement in the lives of citizens. He also opined that the incubation centre in Dehradun should also encompass aspects like skilling, employability and others in addition to IT. Mishra appreciated the consistent progress of Dehradun smart city project which was earlier ranked 24th nationally and rose to ninth position and subsequently the first position in the third round.
Informing about the DICCC, the DSCL chief executive officer Ashish Kumar Srivastava said that initially the centre had started a year ago in a limited form but will now function in a full fledged manner. The technological enhancements made in the city for this purpose include installation of 500 CCTV cameras with features including face recognition, 50 variable message display boards and 50 environmental monitoring sensors, adaptive traffic control system and provision for addressing public grievances related to various important departments.
State minister for Higher Education, Dhan Singh Rawat, director general of police Ashok Kumar, secretaries RK Sudhanshu, Shailesh Bagauli, ADG Abhinav Kumar and Urban Development director Vinod Kumar Suman were also present on the occasion.
