Pushkar Singh Dhami who at present is not the member of the newly constituted fifth elected assembly of the state would have to become a member of the assembly within six months of taking charge as the new chief minister of the state. Dhami under whom the BJP had entered in the elections on the young CM slogan was defeated by the working president of Uttarakhand Congress Bhuwan Kapdi by a margin of 6,759 votes in Khatima assembly constituency.  However after the shocking defeat many MLAs had offered to vacate their seats to pave way for Dhami’s entry into the state assembly.  The newly elected MLA from Champawat Kailash Gahtodi was the first one to offer his seat for Dhami. Apart from him Bhimtal MLA Ram Singh Kaida, Kapkote MLA Suresh Gadia, Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra and Jageshwar MLA Mohan Singh Mahra have offered to quit their seats for Dhami. The independent MLA from Khanpur Umesh Kumar too had made a similar offer for Dhami. The speculations are rife that the Congress MLA from Dharchula assembly constituency Harish Dhami too can leave his seat for Puskhar Singh Dhami and leave the Congress party.
