U’khand Congress smells rat in postal ballots

The Uttarakhand Congress has alleged that the ruling party has misused the postal ballots in its favour in the Assembly elections. On Monday a delegation of Congress party led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal met the deputy chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand and submitted a memorandum.

The PCC president said that the commission had given the facility of postal ballots for the senior citizens above 80 years of age and physically challenged. Apart from them the government employees deployed in election duty were also given postal ballots. Godiyal said that he has received complaints from many districts including Pauri that the postal ballots were misused in the favour of BJP candidates. He said that he had informed the district magistrate/ district election officer of Pauri about it.  Godiyal said that many employees deployed in election duty have complained that they had not received the postal ballots despite applying for them. Similarly, in some cases the application form for postal ballots were not being given.

The Congress delegation demanded that the EC should issue necessary directives for the district magistrates of Pauri and all districts regarding the postal ballots.

In another memorandum the PCC president said that the orders for delimitation and reservation for three tier panchayat elections in Haridwar district have been given even as Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to assembly elections is still enforced in the state. He said that the orders are an open violation of MCC. The Congress delegation demanded that the process of delimitation and reservation should be immediately stopped in view of the MCC in the state.

The deputy CEO assured the delegation to take necessary action on their complaint.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Jot Singh Bisht, general secretary (Organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, Pradeep Tiwari and the party’s media in charge of Garhwal, Garima Dasauni were part of the delegation.
