The declaration of the CM Dhami on UCC in Kashipur underlies that Uttarakhand could become the first State in the country to implement UCC. Recently the State government had given extension to the expert committee set up for recommending ways for implementing the UCC in Uttarakhand.
The committee headed by retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai was set up on May 27, 2022. Justice (retd) Pramod Kohli, social worker Manu Gaur, former chief secretary of Uttarakhand Shatrughna Singh and vice chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal are the members of the expert committee. The committee has examined all existing and relevant laws regarding marriage, divorce, right for property, inheritance, adoption and protection for implementation of UCC in the state.
