Two-day national seminar on Indian knowledge system starts at DAV College

A two-day national seminar on the Indian knowledge system and future prospects commenced at DAV PG College on Friday. Doon University vice chancellor Surekha Dangwal and other academic officials shared their insights on the Indian knowledge system during the seminar. Dangwal highlighted the global recognition of India’s knowledge tradition and emphasised the discrepancy between western scientific claims and ancient Indian knowledge. She commended DAV College for its initiative in promoting Indian knowledge tradition, stating that it aligns with the new education policy in the State. Dangwal stressed on the importance of incorporating a scientific approach in curriculum development for this purpose. Additionally, the director general of the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Durgesh Pant stated that the significance of the Indian knowledge system has been acknowledged on a global scale. The research papers presented in this conference will lay a foundation for a distinct Indian knowledge tradition, he added.  

Further, in a discussion on the importance of Indian knowledge, Doon University professor HC Purohit emphasised that the scientific community worldwide now recognises the Indian knowledge tradition as a rich heritage that warrants thorough examination and research. Drawing upon this knowledge tradition, endeavours are being made to promote peace, harmony and unity internationally. This initiative will prove to be beneficial in guiding future actions, he said.

Throughout the seminar, approximately 17 research papers were deliberated upon. Additionally, the principal of DAV College Sunil Kumar recounted the institution’s journey to the attendees during the event.
