Nine Excise Dept personnel suspended for negligence & inaction

On the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami following the deaths of at least four persons in the Pathri area of Haridwar from consumption of hooch, nine personnel of the Excise department including the excise inspector have been suspended. The chief minister said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty in this incident. He also directed the Excise department to ensure that such an incident is not repeated. Strict action should be taken against whoever is found guilty or negligent in this matter, he stressed.

On the directions of the chief minister, the Excise commission Hari Chandra Semwal issued orders for suspension of nine personnel of the department. The order states that information has been received about deaths being caused in the Phulgarh and Shivgarh villages in Haridwar district due to consumption of liquor. The primary report of the additional excise commissioner (HQ) confirms consumption of liquor by the persons who died. The incident has exposed negligence and serious lack of action by the enforcement staff of the area and district. The conduct of the excise inspector, sub excise inspector and seven other personnel concerned were found to be in violation of the provisions of the Uttarakhand Employees Conduct Rules 2002. These personnel have been suspended with immediate effect and attached to the joint excise Garhwal region office in Dehradun.
