CHAMOLI TRAGEDY- Mahara demands culprits be booked for murder

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that cases of murder should be registered against those responsible for the Chamoli electrocution incident which killed 16 persons. Interacting with the media-persons at the headquarters of the State Congress party on Friday, Mahara gave an account of his visit to Chamoli. Launching an attack on the president of Uttarakhand BJP Mahendra Bhatt for his statement that inclement weather was responsible for his not reaching the spot on the day of the tragedy, the PCC president said that Bhatt is making lame excuses. He said that the helicopter of former chief minister Harish Rawat and former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal landed in Gopeshwar on the day and he himself reached there by road at night.

He said that the arrangement of beds in the Gopeshwar hospital was not there for the injured. The PCC president said that the electrocution incident reflects the apathy of the BJP government. He said that strict action against the culprits should be taken and the family members of the deceased should be given a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and one member of the family should be provided a job.

The chief spokesperson of State Congress Garima Dasauni said that the Manipur incident in which two women were paraded naked before their mass rape has shaken everyone in the country. The video is heartrending and the incident is a crime against humanity. She said that Manipur has been burning from the last three months and the Prime Minister of the country is busy in his foreign tours and visits to election bound States. Mahara said that both PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah are treating Manipur as if it is not part of the country. No BJP leader has visited Manipur in the last three months and taken care of the violence affected people there, she added.
