Doon police seize spurious drugs worth Rs 20 lakh in Delhi

Seized items supplied by accused arrested earlier in Dehradun

Taking further action in a case wherein two men were arrested in Dehradun for manufacturing and selling spurious medicines, the Dehradun police seized about 1.5 lakh spurious capsules and tablets worth Rs 20 lakh from various sites in Delhi. The police said that this action was take after identifying 44 locations in different States to which the spurious medicines had been supplied.

According to the Dehradun police, the Raipur police and special operation group had raided manufacturing units of spurious medicines in Dehradun and Haridwar on October 14 and seized a large quantity of such duplicate drugs and arrested the main accused Sachin Sharma. Investigation revealed that during the past two years, the accused had supplied the spurious medicines worth Rs seven crore to 44 locations in various States. The police collected information about the firms to which the company of the accused, SS Medicos had supplied the spurious medicines. It was ascertained that fake drugs worth about Rs 1.85 crore had been supplied to three companies in Delhi during September. These firms were identified as Bharat Medicos, Shri Balaji Medicos and RG Pharma. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh formed a special team and sent it to take further action in the case. Along with officials concerned, the special team raided the three companies in Delhi and secured the documents related to the supply of spurious medicines. It was ascertained from the documents that such items worth Rs 97 lakh were supplied to Shri Balaji Pharma and items worth Rs 28 lakh had been supplied to RG Pharma. These spurious drugs were then sold to various places in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the police stated. At Bharat Medicos, the police secured documents which revealed that spurious drugs worth Rs 60 lakh had been supplied to it by SS Medicos. Out of these, products worth Rs 40 lakh were sold to various places in Lucknow, Delhi, Varanasi, Siliguri and Bihar. The remaining spurious drugs worth Rs 20 lakh were seized by the police from the godown of the firm. During questioning, the proprietors of the three firms in Delhi stated that they had been sold the drugs by Sharma who had claimed that the items were products of Walter Bushnell and Jagsonpal companies.

The Dehradun SSP said that solving the case and destroying the nation-wide fake medicine racket is a priority for the police.  The police are making efforts to prevent the spurious medicines supplied by the accused from reaching the public and seizing the contraband. The police will not spare any criminal involved in this racket, he stressed.
