Strictly adhere to academic calendar: Minister to universities

The education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has directed all the universities of the State to strictly adhere to the academic calendar. In a meeting held at his Vidhan Sabha office on Wednesday, the minister gave a severe dressing down to the officers for failing to effectively implement the academic calendar. He said that the academic and other activities get affected due to non implementation of the academic calendar and the students have to bear the brunt.

Taking a stern note of the failure of the universities to conduct examinations and declare results on time, the minister warned that such a laxity will not be tolerated. Rawat directed the universities to implement the central assessment system for timely conduction of examinations and declaration of results. He said that all the pending results should be declared soon. Rawat said that many posts in the universities are vacant for a long time which is affecting their functioning. He directed that these posts should be filled by transfer or attachment till permanent appointments are made.

Rawat said that the Vice Chancellor (VC), registrar and the examination controller will be held responsible for any discrepancy.

 The meeting was attended by the secretary higher education Shailesh Bagoli, additional secretary Prashant Arya, VC Open university OPS Negi, VC Sridev Suman university N K Joshi, VC Doon university Surekha Dangwal, VC Almora university J S Bisht, VC Sanskrit university Dinesh Shastri and others.
