Stating that garbage generated from urban areas adjacent to forest areas in Dehradun is being disposed of in the forests, district Panchayat head Madhu Chauhan directed the Forest department to take preventive measures to stop this practice. She stated this in the district Panchayat board meeting held on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by chief development officer Jharna Kamthan along with the officials from various departments including the Women Empowerment and the Child Development Department (WECD), Health, Forest, Education and Agriculture, among others. Chauhan said that the garbage from the urban areas adjacent to the forests like Suddhowala, Bhauwala, and Dudhali, among others, is being regularly thrown into the forests and the department should identify all such areas to take action against the offenders. She also asked them to install CCTV cameras in all identified areas and impose hefty penalties on violators.  Besides this, the department should also focus on raising awareness among people to ensure they do not indulge in such illegal practices or repeat them again. Chauhan also instructed the chief education officer to ensure that the national festivals are celebrated on a large scale in all non-government schools and educational institutions as well. She directed him to issue circulars in this regard to all non-government schools. Also, she directed WECD officials to conduct a survey of all dilapidated Anganwadi centres to commence the repair work soon. The CDO also informed Chauhan that the Dehradun district administration is planning to establish shelters for stray cattle in every block for which it has selected land in most of the blocks. The administration will soon commence the construction work on the selected lands. She further added that libraries are also being established in all the blocks of the district as per the directions of district magistrate Sonika. The administration has set up a library in a Government Inter College in Tyuni.  The administration has selected buildings to operate libraries in Doiwala, Sahaspur and Vikasnagar and proposals have also been received from the remaining blocks, informed the CDO.
