Efforts underway to clear 117 blocked roads in State

With rains being experienced across the State at least 117 roads were reported to be blocked in different areas on Saturday evening. Electricity supply was also disrupted in some villages due to damage in the supply infrastructure. According to information provided by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway 94 and Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway 108 were open in Uttarkashi district though six rural motor roads were blocked in the district. The power supply to Nuranu and Salra villages was disrupted due to eight poles of 11 KV line being damaged at Naitwad in Mori block of the district.

In the Chamoli district, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 was blocked by debris near Radang bend and Lambagarh while 34 rural motor roads were also blocked in the district. Two rural motor roads were blocked in Almora district while in Dehradun district three State highways, one main district road and 19 rural motor roads were blocked to traffic. One main district road and seven rural motor roads were reported blocked in Pauri district while one rural motor road was blocked in Champawat district. In the Rudraprayag district the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 was open while the Ukhimath-Chopta-Gopeshwar national highway 107A was open for light vehicles.

Further, a 21-metre span steel girder bridge on the Uttarkashi-Tehri-Ghansali-Mayali-Tilwada motor road was damaged with efforts underway to set up a bailey bridge to facilitate traffic. While the Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path was open, four rural motor roads were reported blocked in the district. Similarly, five rural motor roads are blocked in the Tehri district while four rural motor roads are blocked in Nainital district. One main district district and 11 rural motor roads were reportedly blocked in Bageshwar district while in the Pithoragarh district the Thal-Munsyari-Ramgangapul-Kweeti border road was blocked due to the abutment of the Dwaligad motor bridge being damaged. While one border road and 14 rural motor roads were blocked in the district, electricity supply to eight villages in Tejam and Munsyari was disrupted due to the 11KV line being damaged in Munsyari Tehsil. The State government and various agencies are undertaking necessary measures to reopen the blocked roads for traffic.
