Shops raided to check for single-use plastic

The officials of the Nainital municipality conducted raids in various shops of the city as part of efforts to implement the ban on single-use plastic which came into force on July 1. The municipality executive officer Ashok Kumar Verma headed the team of municipal staff who raided shops in Mallital Bada Bazaar, Naya Bazaar and nearby areas. The municipality team found the prohibited single-use plastic being used in two shops following which challans were issued to the owners of these two shops.

 The executive officer informed that about two dozens shops were inspected by the municipality team on Monday. A restaurant operator was found using the banned single-use plastic items and was penalised Rs 500. A meat trader in the Bada Bazaar area was also found using the banned items and was issued a challan for Rs 2,000. Verma said that similar drives will continue in the future to enforce the ban on single-use plastic in Nainital.
