The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has appreciated the efforts of the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after the special leave petition related to women’s reservation in jobs was rejected in the Supreme Court. He opined that a conspiracy is being orchestrated to consistently challenge in courts the rights accorded to women but the determination of the BJP government is foiling such attempts.

In an informal interaction with the media, the BJP State president expressed happiness and said that the State government had succeeded in foiling the attempt made by women from outside Uttarakhand through the apex court to secure reservation in jobs in the State. He said that the State government under Dhami remains committed to ensuring that the women of the State get their rights. “Our government will continue to take the horizontal reservation provided to women seriously. The chief minister had made a special appeal to solicitor general and senior counsel Tushar Mehta to advocate in this case. This has resulted in the Supreme Court rejecting the SLP. The apex court has also made it clear now that women candidates from other States will not get reservation in State PCS and other jobs due to the law of the State government,” said the BJP State president.

Bhatt further said that after this development, the whole focus of the State government is on the case in the High Court wherein the validity of the horizontal reservation for women has been challenged. He alleged that some people do not wish that the women of Uttarakhand should get reservation and this is why they are staying in the shadows while trying to complicate this matter. “At present the matter is in the High Court and one trusts that like in the Supreme Court, the State government will present its stand strongly here too. The people and women of Uttarakhand should not worry. Presently, the court has not stayed reservation in the recruitment process and we are confident that our government will win the case before the examination results are released,” added Bhatt.
