Villagers in the Malvatal area of Bhimtal block of Nainital district are living in fear after a woman was killed by a leopard in the area. Indira Belwal (35) had gone to collect fodder from the jungle when a leopard hiding in the bushes attacked her.
The big cat reportedly killed the woman on the spot. The woman who had accompanied here managed to raise the alarm and flee from the spot. The villagers said that people in Malvakhal and nearby areas are living in fear of the big cat.
Earlier, a woman had been killed by a big cat in the Dhudhli village. The Gram Pradhan of Malvatal village Lakshman Singh Gangola said that the locals have repeatedly demanded that the Forest department should trap the big cat. However, the Forest department appears to be treating the matter lightly, he opined.
