Wednesday, 11 January 2023 | PNS | Dehradun

Pushkar Singh Dhami government has set up a six member cabinet subcommittee under the chairmanship of Forest minister Subodh Uniyal to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the statehood activists in government jobs in Uttarakhand.

The social welfare minister Chandan Ramdas, animal Husbandry minister Saurabh Bahuguna, additional chief secretary and secretary justice are the other members of the sub-committee while the secretary personnel and vigilance would be its member Secretary. The sub-committee will examine the proposal for reservation and submit the report to the government.

It is pertinent to mention here that during the tenure of Harish Rawat as chief minister, a bill granting reservation to the Statehood activists was passed by the government in the year 2015. After remaining pending for a long time, the bill was sent back from Raj Bhawan on 22 September 2022. The Narayan Dutt Tiwari government had given the benefit of jobs to the statehood activists. Those who were in jail for more than seven days or were injured in agitation were given jobs directly by a committee headed by the district magistrates while others were granted benefit of 10 per cent horizontal reservations. The activists have not been getting the benefit of reservation in jobs since August 2013 after the stay of the HC.
