Their agitation had adversely affected the functioning of the state health services

The contractual workers of National Health Mission (NHM) have suspended their work boycott agitation.  In support of their nine point demands thousands of contractual workers of NHM were on a self imposed mass home isolation from June 1. These workers would now resume their duties from June 8.

On Monday, the management of NHM gave a written assurance on the agreement reached with the agitating workers. After this the association of the NHM contractual workers decided to suspend their work boycott call which was adversely affecting the health services of the state. The association however has said that the NHM authorities should implement their assurances on various demands within a month. It has threatened that it would be forced to take action to protect the interests of the workers if the assurances are not implemented within a month. The workers have also decided to wear black armbands for the next one month.

The President of the association Sunil Bhandari said that NHM workers have been working with honesty and dedication for the last many years but were forced to take extreme step of work boycott when their justified demands were ignored for long by the officials.

There are more than 45000 contractual workers working in different capacities under NHM and are key for the functioning of the state health department. These workers are demanding payment of loyalty bonus to them as per the provisions of NHM. These workers are also demanding a facility of cashless health cover on the lines of state government employees and other benefits, preference in recruitment in the posts of nursing and other staff and pay parity.
