The Finance minister Prem Chand Agarwal has said that increasing the tax collection should be the top priority and for it the officers should work on a war scale. The minister said this while presiding over a meeting of the officers finance department on GST collection on Tuesday. The minister curtly told the officers that FIRs should be registered against the tax offenders. He added that major stakeholders and contributors of GST should be encouraged and awarded.

In the meeting organised at the office of Commissioner Taxes, the minister said that officers should lodge FIRs in the cases of tax theft and opined that it would help in reducing such cases. Agarwal said that the complaints of tax evasion are coming from the Kumaon region and the officers should hold an audit and identify the culprits. On a stern note the minister said that action should be taken against the officers of the department found involved in the cases of tax evasion.

He suggested that the officers of the department should hold meetings with the representatives of Vyapar Mandals and give them correct information about GST. This would help in disseminating information at the lowest level, he opined.

It was decided that CCTV cameras should be installed on the wayside weighing scales ( Dharam Kantas) so that information about the cargo carriers is collected. Agarwal said that the GST centres with less tax collections should be regularly reviewed. He also congratulated the officers of the department for spreading awareness about the service charge.
