REEL to operate Sheeshambada plant

Gets necessary renewal certificate from the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board

After a long wait, the Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) has finally received the renewal certificate of Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) for the operation of Sheeshambada solid waste management and recycling plant.

The locals of Sheeshambada area had lodged their protest against the management of the company and had stated that the plant was being operated illegally.

However the company had maintained that the pollution control board had inspected the plant but the renewal of the CTO certificate got delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Recently the REEL claimed that it has received CTO from UEPPCB which is valid up to March 31, 2022. Meanwhile, some locals have expressed their disappointment over the issue that not every household disposes of the garbage through the door to door collection service of the company. According to them, some either burn the garbage or throw it on the roadside. Responding to this, the company stated that Ramky provides 100 percent door to door garbage collection service in 69 wards of Dehradun city as per the Concession Agreement with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). The company has deployed 120 door to door collection vehicles and 30 tricycles for garbage collection in the said wards which are strictly monitored by supervisors as well as through GPS enabled tracking system, informed Ramky. According to the management of Ramky, the only households they possibly do not get to collect the waste from are the ones where the residents are not available to hand over their domestic garbage. Though the company said that the management regularly publicises and promotes the proper disposal of domestic garbage among locals and is doing the best to facilitate the door to door collection, they added that it is the duty of the locals too to hand over properly segregated waste regularly to the sanitation workers.
