MCD to penalise those shirking garbage collection service

The door to door garbage collection service asked to provide a list of non co-operators.

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has instructed Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) to provide the list of the locals who refrain from handing over the garbage to the door to door collection service. According to the senior municipal health officer Dr R K Singh, the municipal corporation has provided door to door garbage collection facility but still, many locals refrain from handing over their segregated domestic waste to the sanitation workers in garbage collecting vehicles. “Many people do not dump their garbage in the vehicle of the garbage collection service with an intention to save some rupees,” said Singh. He said that if people are not handing over their domestic waste during door to door collection, they are probably dumping it at other places. Therefore, the corporation has directed the management of REEL that handles the door to door collection facility in 69 wards to provide a list of such households so that appropriate action can be taken against them by MCD. “We will issue a notice to people who do not dump their garbage through the door to door collection soon after the corporation receives the list. If they would not start giving their domestic waste to the garbage collecting vehicles after the notice too, MCD will be forced to impose a penalty of minimum Rs 500 and above under anti-littering act,” informed Singh.

Meanwhile, he also informed that the corporation recently provided training to municipal health inspectors to promote composting among local residents who have space to do so. Besides, they are also asked to aware and encourage locals about the segregation process before handing over their domestic garbage during door to door collection, said Singh.
