Former chief minister and the current MLA of Doiwala, Trivendra Singh Rawat has written to the Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda, expressing his wish to refrain from contesting the Assembly election. In the letter to Nadda, Rawat has stated that he wishes to focus his efforts on the Assembly elections to facilitate the formation of the BJP State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Rawat said in the letter that there had been a leadership change in the state with youth leader Pushkar Singh Dhami being made the chief minister. “In the changed political scenario, I should not contest the Vidhan Sabha election 2022. I had made you aware of my views in the past too,” he wrote in letter to Nadda. He cited the various organisational posts he has held in the past including BJP national secretary, Jharkhand in-charge, co-in-charge in Uttar Pradesh for the 2014 Lok Sabha election apart from working in election campaigns in Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Rawat stated that he wants to spend all his time to facilitate formation of BJP government in Uttarakhand under Dhami once again. Citing this reason, he has asked Nadda to agree to his request this time so that he can focus all his efforts on formation of the BJP government in the state.

Rawat also said that he and the state had received unprecedented encouragement and support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Expressing gratefulness to people of Uttarakhand and his Doiwala constituency, he said that he is confident that people of this constituency will continue to support the BJP.

Meanwhile, following Rawat’s letter to Nadda, senior party leaders were reportedly discussing the viable changes needed to field the party candidate from Doiwala constituency.
