The national spokesman of Congress party Gaurav Vallabh has said that instead of fulfilling its promise of doubling the income the Modi government has reduced the income of the farmers.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the farmers on February 28, 2016 that their income would be doubled before 2022 but instead of this the pain of the farmers has increased 100 times in the last few years. He said that in September 2021 the NSSO report mentions that the average income of farmers has come down to Rs 27 per day and the average loan on a farmer is Rs 74,000.

He along with the national general secretary and party observer Mohan Prakash released a booklet on the plight of the farmers on the occasion.

Vallabh said that the NSSO report of September 2021 reveals that instead of doubling the income the Modi government has increased the cost of farmers by many folds.

He said that 50.2 per cent farmers are debt ridden and the average debt on every farmer family is Rs 74,121.

The Congress spokesman claimed that the rearing animals too have become a loss making profession under Modi regime. He said that a farmer engaged in animal husbandry is able to earn Rs 16.24 per day on an average.

Vallabh said that on one hand Modi government is claiming to hand over 6,000 per farmer as Kisan Samman Nidhi it snatched up to Rs 25,000 per hectare from the farmers by increasing the prices of diesel, imposing tax on tractor and farm equipment and fertilizers. The prices of the seed and electricity too were raised. The Congress leader said that demanding repeal of farm laws, lakhs of farmers were forced to agitate for 380 days in which 700 farmers lost their lives.
