Rain & snowfall forecast across State till March 20

In what might be viewed as a relief from rising temperatures, the State is set to witness a spell of rain and snowfall from March 16 to 20. According to the State meteorological centre, two western disturbances as upper air systems in mid and upper tropospheric levels and induced cyclonic circulations in lower levels in succession are likely to cause rain/thunderstorms/snowfall in Uttarakhand during the said period. On Thursday the state is forecast to witness light to moderate rain/ thunderstorm/ snowfall at many places with snowfall likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above. The meteorological centre has also issued a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State today. Thunderstorms and rain are also likely in the provisional State capital Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 30 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The meteorological centre has forecast that from March 17 to 19, light to moderate rain/ thunderstorm / snowfall are very likely to occur at many places in the State. Similar weather is very likely to occur at most places in the State on March 20. Snowfall is likely to occur at places located at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above from March 16 to 18 and at places located at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above on March 19 and 20. The snowfall depth is likely to increase gradually and reach about three to five feet at places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above.

Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places on Wednesday were 30.5 degrees Celsius and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 30.5 degrees Celsius and 12.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 19 degrees Celsius and 5.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 19.9 degrees Celsius and 8.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was recorded in various places on Tuesday with 53.5 millimetres being recorded in Sahastradhara area of Dehradun, 6.5 millimetres in Uttarkashi, 4.2 millimetres in Mussoorie, 2.5 millimetres in Devidhura and two millimetres in Dunda.
