Enforcement teams seize unaccounted cash, narcotics & liquor worth Rs 18.42 crore

The chief electoral officer Sowjanya said that the enforcement teams have seized cash, liquor and narcotics worth Rs 18.42 crore since the announcement of the Assembly election schedule in the state.

The enforcement teams have seized unaccounted cash of Rs 4.26 crore and 92,000 litres of liquor worth over Rs 4.52 crore  in the past 35 days since the model code of conduct (MCC) came into effect in the state.

The teams have seized unaccounted cash of a total of Rs 2.47 crore from January 10 to Jan 31 and Rs 1.82 crore in the past 13 days from across the state as per the data provided by the authorities. According to them, the State Surveillance Teams (SSTs), Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and police have seized more than 60,723 litres of alcohol worth over Rs 3.34 crore since the implementation of MCC. The excise department has also seized 34,347 litres of alcohol worth over Rs 1.32 crore in the state as per the data.  Besides this, the police have confiscated 376 illegal weapons, imposed penalties on 45,498 persons and detained 37,931 persons across the state under the sections 107/106 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
