Governor asks people to take two pledges, says the State should have immediate, intermediate & long term goals

The 23rd foundation day of Uttarakhand was celebrated with enthusiasm in different parts of the State on Wednesday. The Governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took part in a programme organised at Police lines, Racecourse here on the day. The governor reviewed the ceremonial parade of Uttarakhand police on the occasion.

 Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the people of the State on the occasion of the foundation day and paid his tributes to the statehood activists. He exhorted the people to take two pledges, to follow traffic rules and to make every part of the State a role model of sanitation. The governor said that by following the rules, the number of road accidents in the State can be drastically reduced. He said that we should set up immediate goals which should be completed till the year 2025, intermediate goals for the end of the third decade of century (2030) and century goals to be completed before the year 2047 when the country would celebrate 100 years of its independence. He said that the universities of the State are being encouraged to become centres of excellence.

The governor stressed that the administration and governance should be transparent and free from corruption for the development of the State and  the corruption free App 1064, CM helpline 1905, Apani Sarkar portal, e office and e cabinet are some of the steps taken by the State government in this direction.

The governor said that the numbers of the tourists in the State are increasing and we should promote setting up of Home stays in the villages. Highlighting the stories in the field of horticulture and organic farming, he said that the State has carved a special status for itself in various fields and it would not be wrong to refer to ‘ 22 glorious years’ for the period. The governor however added that much is needed to be done by the State. 

Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami said that the State government is committed to the development of the State in accordance with the dreams of the Statehood activists. Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the CM said that the dream of a separate State was realised during his tenure. He said that the State government is working on the mantra of ‘proactive governance and timely implementation’ given by PM Modi. He averred that projects worth more than Rs one lakh crore are currently going on in the State. The CM said that the State government is trying to provide employment opportunities to the youth in the government sector and in the private sector by enhancing the skill of the youth. On a firm note, he said that those responsible for cheating the unemployed would not be spared.

 The cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, Lok Sabha MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Savita Kapur, Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (DMC) Sunil Uniyal Gama, chief secretary S S Sandhu, Director General Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar and senior officers of administration and police were present on the occasion.
