In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the arrival of the new variant of Corona virus, the B D Pandey District Hospital has been facing an Oxygen mess. Although the hospital administration has started full-scale preparations to take on any medical emergency the breakdown of the oxygen plant has left them in a soup. During the corona pandemic that broke out in 2020-21, an oxygen plant had been installed in B D Pandey Hospital at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, but it had broken down five months ago. Now, with the new variant knocking, the hospital management is having the oxygen cylinders refilled from Haldwani. They have also written to the State government about the plant breakdown and the need of its prompt repair.
Notably, a central oxygen plant system had been installed in the hospital to which 97 beds were directly connected.
Speaking on the matter, the principal medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr T K Tamta said that the cylinders are now being refilled from Haldwani. “At the same time, oxygen is also given to the patients from the oxygen concentrator in the hospital. The annual maintenance cost of the oxygen concentrator is about Rs three lakh. We have sought the government’s help in repairing the now-defunct oxygen generation plant. We hope it will be fixed soon,” he added.
