Politicising Joshimath issue exposes Congress’ dual character: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Congress is attemping to politicise the Joshimath subsidence issue in its Bharat Jodo Yatra. Objecting to this, the BJP has said that this has exposed the dual character of the Congress. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that on the one hand the State Congress leaders meet chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and give him suggestions regarding the disaster and the next day they give a political colour to the issue by raising it in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The projects approved during the term of the Congress government for political gains are now being termed uncontrolled and unplanned development by its leaders, he said. Bhatt alleged that from the first day of the disaster, the Congress has been focusing on playing with the sentiments of the affected people and instigating them instead of helping them. Due to its attempts to defame the government, an atmosphere of uncertainty regarding travelling to Joshimath and other mountainous regions is being developed on social media and other media. “Dedicating one day of the Bharat Jodo Yatra to the Joshimath issue is part of the Congress’ negative strategy. The Congress leaders had met CM Dhami a day ago and handed him a list of suggestions while putting their faith in the government and praising it. It is part of the party’s dual character to use not just the Joshimath issue, but other projects related to the nation’s security and development in its political Yatra. Work on most of the constructed and under construction projects aimed at meeting the energy requirements of the nation has been going on since the term of the Congress governments. They are also aware of the national and regional importance of the Char Dham road and Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail projects. However, without any technical and scientific report, they are describing these as uncontrolled and unplanned development in the mountains during the political Yatra which is unfortunate,” said the BJP State president.
