The police arrested three more accused who allegedly helped shooters- Sarvjeet Singh and Amarjeet Singh in the murder of Dera Kar Sewa Pramukh of Udham Singh Nagar’s Nanakmatta Gurudwara, Tarsem Singh. The accused identified as Jaspal Singh Bhatti alias Mintu, Sukhdev Singh Gill alias Sonu and Pargat Singh were allegedly involved in the conspiracy to kill Tarsem Singh by gathering resources for the assassins, the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said on Sunday. He said that the police arrested four accused- Dilbag Singh, Harvinder, Balkar Singh and Amandeep Singh on April 3.
The names of two more accused Pargat Singh and Sultan Singh came to light during the investigation. Sultan was the main conspirator and was in touch with the accused Amarjeet even after Tarsem’s murder. He along with Mintu provided the rifle to shooter Amarjeet on March 17. Sultan and Mintu are vicious criminals and various cases of murder and other heinous crimes are registered against them in Uttarakhand and nearby states. It was also revealed during the investigation that shooter Amarjeet and Mintu are cousins. Both belong to Chattisgarh’s Bilaspur and had gone to jail for stealing in an ATM booth and attacking police in Rudrapur in 2014, the SSP said. The police arrested Pargat Singh and Mintu on April 6 and Sonu on April 7.
The police are looking for the accused Sultan. The police so far have arrested eight accused in the case but denied to reveal from where they were arrested stating that it can probably affect their ongoing investigation. The SSP also informed that the police have also increased the bounty from Rs 50,000 each to Rs one lakh each on both shooters. Responding to various narratives circulating online regarding Tarsem Singh’s death, the SSP said that the police will take strict legal action against those making unnecessary statements and spreading rumours on social media regarding the matter. Tarsem was shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle around 6:15 AM on March 28. He was shot twice with a rifle by the pillion rider when he was using his phone while sitting on a chair.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of 11 teams including the Special Task Force (STF) and over 85 police personnel is investigating the case. The SSP said that Tarsem’s death is a big conspiracy which was planned at least six to eight months before his murder. He said that the SIT has gathered more crucial information in the case and will nab other accused soon.
