PM reviews aftermath of triple train crash in Odisha

In breaking news, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high- level meeting to review the situation in the aftermath of the deadly train crash in Odisha that occurred at Balasore on Friday evening. It is learnt that the PM will visit Balasore and talk to those injured. As per the latest information received, over 230 passengers were killed and over 900 were injured in the horrific train mishap. This mishap is considered as one of the deadliest train mishaps in the country. Three trains were involved in the accident- Shalimar Chennai Coromandel Express, Bangalore- Howrah Superfast train and a goods train.  

While expressing condolence over the deadly train crash resulting in colossal loss of lives, the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has cancelled all programmes slated on Saturday to mark completion of one year of his victory in Champawat by-election.

Meanwhile, the Railway department has started a high-level inquiry into the train crash in Odisha to be headed by the commissioner of railway safety, South-Eastern Circle. Notably, the commissioner of railway safety works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation while investigating such accidents.

This being the worst railway accident in the country in the last 15 years, condolences are pouring in from across the world for the victims of the triple train crash. The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Russian Ambassador to India and UN General Assembly president Csaba Korosi among others have condoled the death of hundreds of people in the triple train collision in Odisha.
