Pilgrims asked to observe precautions, check weather forecast before visiting Kedarnath

Intermittent rain & snowfall continues at Himalayan shrine, similar weather forecast for a week

The authorities have appealed to pilgrims to travel cautiously and embark according to the weather forecast for Kedarnath considering the rain and snowfall being experienced there for the past few days. While Gangotri and Yamunotri have been reopened to the public on April 22, Kedarnath is slated to be reopened on April 25. However, apart from the rain and snowfall already witnessed, light rain and snowfall have been forecast in the area for the next one week.

According to officials, Kedarnath is witnessing intermittent rain and snowfall. The people planning to visit Kedarnath from across India and abroad have been requested to check the weather forecast before embarking for the shrine. They have also been asked to bring adequate warm clothing as the snowfall and extreme cold may cause various problems during the pilgrimage. The State government has arranged for medical health facilities at various points on the Yatra routes and the pilgrims can visit the nearest health centre to seek medical advice in case their health deteriorates. It is pertinent to mention here that more than 16 lakh people have registered for the Char Dham Yatra so far out of which more than six lakh have registered to visit Kedarnath.

According to the meteorological centre, Kedarnath will witness partly to generally cloudy skies with possibility of one to two spells of very light to light rain/snow on Monday. From April 25 when the shrine is set to be reopened to the public till April 29, the meteorological centre has forecast partly cloudy skies with the possibility of thunder cloud development/light rain/snow towards the afternoon/evening.
