The Perseid meteor shower will peak on Sunday night providing a unique scene in the night skies. Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) senior scientist Shashibhushan said that the process of the meteor shower nearing its peak had started on Friday.
The number of meteors would increase on Saturday night and the meteor shower would peak on Sunday night. More than 90 meteors are expected to be visible when the shower is at its peak on Sunday night. The Perseid meteor shower is considered to be one of the best meteor showers which is awaited eagerly by astronomy enthusiasts and others every year.
The meteor shower will be viewed best in the time before dawn as the moon would have set by then and the sky would be dark. Though meteors are seen throughout the year, the Perseid meteor shower is popular due to the large number of meteors in it. Meanwhile, with Uttarakhand witnessing cloudy skies and rains these days, enthusiasts are hoping for a clear sky on Sunday to be able to witness the meteor shower at its peak.
