Tuesday, 08 February 2022 | PNS | Bageshwar

The Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda focused on development achieved by the BJP government at the Centre and in Uttarakhand while lambasting the Congress for its “negative and anti-poor” politics, adding that the people had decided to reject the Congress. Nadda addressed public gatherings in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh seeking votes for the party candidates on Monday.

Speaking in Bageshwar, the BJP national president recalled the historical importance of Bageshwar while also referring to the considerable presence of Uttarakhandis in the armed forces. He said, “Our party does work to unite and not divide the people. While the BJP focuses on the politics of development and presents its report card to the people, others pursue dynastic politics. The Congress party is more of a party of brother and sister instead of a national party now. On the other hand, our party sees the suffering of the poor, the last person and works for their welfare,” he said. Speaking of developments achieved by the BJP he said that Indira Gandhi had nationalised banks in 1971, but the bank accounts of the poor could not be opened. The accounts of the poor were opened through Jan Dhan Yojana by the BJP government. More than 40 crore poor have bank accounts now and out of these more than 26 lakh accounts have been opened in Uttarakhand. “In 1966, Ram Manohar Lohia said that women have to go to the fields or in the open to defecate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the work of giving Izzat Ghar (toilet) to 11 crore women. Further, women had to toil for collecting firewood. Our government resolved this problem by providing more than three lakh free LPG connections in Uttarakhand. Under the Saubhagya scheme in Uttarakhand, work has been done to provide electricity connections to 2.48 lakh households,” said Nadda.

He referred to the one rank one pension demand of ex-servicemen which was fulfilled by the Modi government, adding that it had benefitted 1.16 lakh persons in Uttarakhand. Speaking about infrastructural development, Nadda said that the double-engine government of the BJP had expanded the road network which has made life more convenient for the locals and will further boost tourism. While work on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project is already underway the survey work for Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail line is also underway.

The BJP national president also spoke of various works undertaken by the state government while also referring to the Kedarnath reconstruction, all-weather road project and other works of the Central government in the state. Earlier, Nadda paid obeisance at the Bagnath temple on arriving in Bageshwar.
