Gandhi, Shastri remembered on anniversary

MK Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were remembered and rich tributes were paid to them on their birth anniversary on Saturday.

The Governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General ( Retd) Gurmit Singh paid floral tribute to Gandhi and Shastri at Raj Bhawan on the day. A prayer meeting was also organised on the occasion in which Gandhi’s favourite Bhajans Vaishnava Jan Tai Taine Kahae Je Peer Parai Jane Re and Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, were presented by students of Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Dehradun.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered floral tributes to Gandhi at the Gandhi Park on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Gandhi motivated everyone to tread on the path of truth and non violence. He said that Gandhi played a pivotal role in the freedom movement of the country. Dhami said that we should inculcate the principle of non violence in our behaviour and should have a sentiment of serving humanity. The Union Minister of State for Defence and Tourism, Ajay Bhatt also garlanded the statue of Gandhi and offered his tributes.
