The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will start charging penalties on the dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets defecate in public places.

According to the chief municipal health officer Kailash Joshi, most of the dog owners let their dogs defecate in open areas during early mornings and evenings on a daily basis but fail to clean after them. “Most of the people involved in such practices are educated people but they still contribute to making the city filthy.

Considering this, we have decided to impose a penalty of Rs 500 on such dog owners,” informed Joshi. He said that this amount would be charged on owners on being caught for the first time but after that, legal action will be taken on repeated violations and higher penalties would be imposed. He said that the corporation is presently making plans to restrict this practice and as a part of it, penalties will be imposed from next month.
