New academic session in varsities, colleges to start from Oct 1

All the institutes should declare their examination results till October 30- Minister

The higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that the new academic session in the universities and colleges of the state would start from October 1. The minister held a meeting with the representatives of the universities and officials of the higher education department at the secretariat on Saturday. In the meeting it was decided that admissions for the first semester and first year in the higher education institutes would commence from September 1.

The minister said that as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the new academic session would commence from October 1. Rawat said that all the institutes should declare their examination results till October 30. He said that the government has accepted the demand that the medical, paramedical and nursing colleges of the state should open from the month of August. In the meeting the minister directed the task force constituted for implementation of new education policy to start its home work.

He also directed all the Vice Chancellors (VC) to set up units of National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) and Redcross society in their universities. He said that seminars on decreasing sex ratio should be organised and nodal officers for 3 -D painting under Namami Gange project should be appointed. Rawat said that seminars should be organised under the aegis of National Library Kolkata for opening libraries at block level in the state. He also said that all the government and private universities should organise convocation ceremonies in the month of October.

The meeting was attended by Secretary higher education Deependra Chaudhary, VCs OPS Negi, P P Dhyani, N K Joshi, N S Bhandari, Surekha Dangwal, director higher education Kumkum Rautela and others.
