Need policy changes to benefit smaller workers- Maharaj

The State’s Tourism, Irrigation, Panchayati Raj, Public Works and Rural Works minister Satpal Maharaj said that he has always been telling departmental officials about the need or changes in policies in order to benefit those who are eager to do smaller works. He said that officials and big contractors working in collusion implement big works in the departments but at the ground level it is the smaller people who do the work. When it comes to the payment, the big contractor leaves while the local person suffers loss. The minister said this while addressing workers and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party after his arrival in Uttarkashi district on Wednesday.

Maharaj said that the youth need to work in the area of tourism. The government is going to develop various tourism circuits as part of the efforts to make this Uttarakhand’s decade. He also encouraged the youth to try their luck in the army recruitment process which is going to start soon.

Welcoming the minister, the Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan said that the development of the local people can be ensured only by strengthening the Panchayats. He stressed on the need for making the Panchayats stronger.

The BJP district head Ramesh Chauhan informed that the Chinyalisaud police station is being shifted to another location. However, the minister has ordered that the police station be maintained at its present location, a decision which has been welcomed by the local residents.  A number of party workers and office bearers of the BJP were also present on the occasion.
