Committee to be formed for study & conservation of Himalayan water sources

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that a committee for study and conservation of the natural water sources of Himalaya and its streams would be set up and it would undertake every possible measure for the saving of the natural streams of Himalayas. The CM said this while participating in a programme organised on the occasion of Himalaya Diwas at Parmarth Niketan in Rishikeshon Friday.

He said that the government has two set targets, on the one hand it has to remain very serious towards conservation of Himalaya and on the other hand it has to discharge its responsibility towards development. This will help in protecting the environment of Himalayas and the economy of the people residing here, he said. Advocating separate models of development for the Himalayan States which are in sync with their geography and ecology, Dhami said that he had shared important issues and concerns related to Himalaya in the meeting of the NITI Aayog as well. He said that there is a need for social development in the Himalaya and that the ecology and economy should be kept together. He said that conserving the biodiversity of Himalaya is very important and human life will remain safe only when Himalaya is safe.

The CM said that the Himalaya is important for the whole world so its conservation is everyone’s responsibility. Stressing on the conservation of culture, rivers and forests for conservation of nature and Himalaya, the CM said that environmental conservation is in the blood of the people of Uttarakhand. He said that festivals like Harela reflect the farsightedness of our ancestors. Dhami opined that concrete and collective brainstorming should be held on the subject of environment change, global warming and issues of water, forests and land.

Speaking on the occasion the head of Parmarth Niketan Swami Chidanand said that every resident of Uttarakhand is guard of the Himalaya. He said that conservation of a huge landscape such as the Himalaya is actually the conservation of our future. He said that the conservation of Ganga, its reservoirs and Glaciers is possible with the conservation of Himalayas.

Swami Chidanand felicitated CM Dhami with ‘ Ekal Hanuman Samman’ on the occasion and said that CM is working like Hanuman in  the field of environmental protection.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Baby Rani Maurya said conservation of Ganga is necessary along with the conservation of Himalayas.

Forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that the forest department is working on projects of conserving and reviving the water sources.
