PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Terming the decision of the government to celebrate completion of 11 years of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of the country as a mark of service, disciple and welfare of the poor as nonsensical, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that the people of the country have suffered a lot during this period.

She said that propelled by the promise of Achhe Din made to the people, the BJP came to power in 2014  but the last decade witnessed attacks on democracy and institutions. Central agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate were used as a weapon against the opposition. Dasauni said that lakhs of small businessmen and traders were devastated by the demonetisation and GST decisions. The unemployment has skyrocketed and the wedge of social, economic and political dissimilarity has increased.

Dasauni said that the 11 year rule of Modi was marked by an attack on social harmony as well. Attacks on minorities increased and polarisation on religious lines occurred. She averred that the people suffered a lot due to the gross mismanagement  of the government during the pandemic of Covid-19 and thousands of the people died during the second wave.

The workers and farmers were ignored and three farm laws agitated the farmers. The government remained apathetic to the demand of the farmers on scrapping the farm laws till more than 700 lives were lost.

The Congress leader accused the central government for adopting a soft attitude towards China and said that the silence of the government on Chinese intrusion was of great concern.

She said that the last 11 years witnessed planned mismanagement and centralisation of power. The people of the country now want change and such a government which is accountable and protects democracy, she said.
