Police impose penalties on 47 landlords in Dehradun for keeping unverified tenants

Police issued challans to 47 landlords under the Police Act for not verifying their tenants in the Selaqui area of Dehradun. The police imposed a total fine of Rs 4.7 lakh during a verification drive conducted on Monday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that since many people from other districts and states live there who mainly work in factories in the Selaqui area, several teams from Selaqui police station carried out a large-scale verification campaign in areas including Jamnapur, Peethwali Gali, Bhaowala and Shivnagar Basti. The police verified the identities of over 1,000 residents, including tenants and individuals from outside the district. He informed that the police detained 27 individuals with suspicious backgrounds for questioning at the police station. The campaign aimed to ensure proper tenant verification and identify any potentially unlawful residents in the area. The SSP said that all police station in-charges across Dehradun have been directed to conduct similar verifications in their respective jurisdictions.
