MCR employees accuse mayor of harassment & exploitation

The Municipal Corporation of Roorkee (MCR) employees federation head Dhanprakash Sharma has accused the mayor Gaurav Goel of mentally harassing and exploiting the corporation employees. He has stated this in a letter addressed to the municipal commissioner. Sharma has alleged that the mayor threatened two clerks of the construction division and accused them of inciting the municipal commissioner. He said that in the past too the corporation employees had complained on various occasions and sought a probe. The employees will undertake an agitation if no action is taken, he warned.

In the letter by the corporation employees dated February 22, Goel has been accused of consistently harassing the employees and exploiting them. They state that had complained to senior officials many times in the past and that the district magistrate had directed the municipal commissioner to probe into the matter. The probe was to be completed by December 31. The employees further alleged that the mayor has been emboldened as the investigation into the earlier allegations did not take place. The employees are now being pressurised to not follow the orders of the municipal commissioner, they claimed. The employees averred that on February 18, construction division clerk Praveen Kumar was showing a file to the mayor in which a noting on a past date purportedly stated that a check by IIT should be done before making the bill. It is alleged that when the clerk informed the municipal commissioner about this, the mayor used objectionable language while pulling up two clerks of the construction division on the phone. The corporation employees have stated in the letter that they are now frustrated because of the harassment by the mayor. If their complaints made till date are not investigated now, the employees will undertake an agitation. Meanwhile, when contacted regarding the issue, the municipal commissioner said that he had not yet received any such complaint.
