Health, education and nutrition are vital not only for individual health but also for overall welfare of society. This was stated by Padma Shri recipient orthopadic surgeon Dr BKS Sanjay and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay who have been acknowledged by the International Book of Records for writing the maximum number of guest columns in print media. They informed the media about their feat of writing 59 guest columns which was recently noted as a world record in the book.

Dr Gaurav Sanjay said that health is not only an asset but also a resource which should be nurtured by all. Those associated with this sector should not work with the sole purpose of commercial benefit. Their actions should be based on human ethos, he said. He also stressed on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle to prevent chronic diseases and long-term illnesses.

Dr BKS Sanjay said that concept of good health should be imbibed from childhood rather than being focused upon later in life. He said that awareness plays a key role in the approach to improve access to healthcare. “We seek to empower communities, medical professionals and patients with appropriate tools, information and skills so that they can make informed decisions on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care and support,” said Dr Sanjay, while reiterating his commitment to continue his efforts for raising public awareness.

Speaking on the occasion, gynaecologist Dr Sujata Sanjay said that during the Covid pandemic, the media had played a vital role in keeping the public informed with correct information. Along with health sector workers, the media persons also played an important role during the pandemic, she said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr BKS Sanjay and Dr Gaurav Sanjay have been writing guest columns consistently in The Pioneer on various social and medical issues since 2018.
