Two vehicle thieves caught, 10 stolen motorbikes recovered

Duo was allegedly stealing vehicles to sustain drug abuse habit

The Ranipur police arrested two men accused of stealing several motorcycles in Haridwar. The two accused arrested on Sunday had stolen 10 motorcycles from different areas in order to feed their substance abuse habit. The police also recovered the stolen motorcycles. According to the police, the accused also committed other thefts apart from the vehicle thefts to sustain their habit.

Haridwar superintendent of police (Crime) Rekha Yadav informed that on November 17, the plaintiff Akram had lodged a report of theft of his motorbike from Pir Bazaar area which falls under Ranipur Kotwali area.  Police teams were formed to solve the case.  These teams also called the known thieves and questioned them thoroughly.  Meanwhile, an informer tipped off the police that two suspects were roaming in an area of Salempur.  The vehicle they were using did not have a number plate on it. Acting on the information, the police reached the spot and caught the two suspects. During questioning, the two accused told the police that the two-wheeler they were using had been stolen from Peer Bazaar.  When the duo was questioned sternly the police were told about nine other stolen motorcycles which were also recovered later by the police. The accused said that they had come to SIIDCUL a few months ago but were unable to secure a job and so got involved in the business of vehicle theft.  The accused had stolen one bike from Ranipur, two each from Laksar, Bahadarabad, Jwalapur and three from Balwali trijunction.  The accused caught by the police have been identified as Laksar residents Saurav Gurjar and Salman.
