The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) would soon issue notices to property tax defaulters on the basis of the data collected through the Geographic Information System (GIS) based survey. The MCD tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly informed that the corporation has collected a little over Rs 20 crore as property tax in this financial year so far submitted by about 30,000 property taxpayers. He said that the number of taxpayers and revenue collection is expected to increase in the next month as most of the taxpayers deposit tax in the last three months of the financial year.

The MCD has already registered  1,500 new property taxpayers in the past three months, informed Painuly. He said that the corporation has already sent notices to over 10,000 defaulters and would send more in a week on the basis of the data collected through GIS based survey. According to official sources, MCD can discontinue the 20 per cent rebate for residential property owners after January but no official statement has been issued by the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ in the matter so far. Informing about the ongoing survey, the tax superintendent informed that the corporation has finished the survey for property mapping in 50 wards most of which fall under urban areas.

Though the urban development directorate had expected the whole process to be completed by 2023, the MCD officials expect it to take at least six more months to cover the remaining 50 wards in Dehradun. The officials said that the company assigned to conduct the drone survey has completed it and after collecting details of properties through the door to door survey, all data would be made available to the online portal of the directorate for quick assessment and appropriate calculation of property tax.
