MCD to hold property tax collection camps in each ward after Nov 15

In view of dwindling property tax collection due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to set up camps in every ward of the city. In the last few months, a number of people were tested positive for Covid-19 in the corporation due to which the campus was closed multiple times to the general public. The senior officials of the corporation have requested the locals on many occasions to deposit the property tax online but most of the residents prefer to deposit the tax physically in the MCD campus, as per the officials.

Besides, there are still many taxpayers of the last financial year who have not deposited property tax but to encourage people to deposit tax during the pandemic, the corporation has not imposed any penalty on such taxpayers. Despite this, the corporation has collected the property tax of about Rs seven crore only since April. “The property tax collected so far is quite less in the corporation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. To improve the situation by making the submission of property tax easy for the locals, MCD will set up several property tax collection camps in all the hundred wards after November 15,” informed the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
