MCD to make new smart public toilets by December

In order to improve the ranking of the city in Swachh Survekshan 2021, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to pay extra attention to the segregation of domestic garbage during door to door collection in all the wards. Besides, the corporation will also make smart public toilets in public places of the city by the end of this year. In the last cleanliness survey, Dehradun took a big leap in the rankings from 384th position attained last year to 124th position this time. The chief municipal health officer Dr Kailash Joshi stated that the corporation wants to improve the next year’s ranking in the survey and the corporation is considering various plans to make the sanitation facilities better in the city. He said that many locals neglect the segregation process of garbage before dumping it in garbage collection vehicles. Therefore, the civic body will focus more on segregation at the source of the garbage while making the people aware about its long term impact and importance, as per the officials. Moreover, the door to door collection is not mandatory for every resident in the city due to which many people burn the garbage which causes air pollution and it is one of the reasons of littered on roadsides and other public places. Responding to this, the officials stated that the corporation is working on improving sanitation facilities in the city and this situation is under consideration too.

Meanwhile, the officials also informed that MCD is also planning to make about 15 smart public toilets for which the corporation recently invited the tenders. “We recently invited tenders for construction of around 15 smart toilets under public private partnership (PPP) mode in the city and its process is almost completed. Though there are already about 45 public toilets in Dehradun including around 26 smart toilets, we want to construct more toilets in public places for locals,” said Joshi. He informed that these smart toilets will be ready by the end of the year.
