The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has set up a provisional isolation ward in the Kanji House at Selaqui for the treatment of cattle suffering from Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal said that many people have recently started leaving their cattle, mainly cows suffering from LSD, on the streets after cutting their tags to keep the authorities away from tracing their cattle back to them. Considering such acts and the increase in the number of cattle affected by the disease, the corporation decided to set up the isolation ward in the Kanji House to provide the required medical treatment, said the commissioner. He said that many cattle owners have also contacted the corporation about their cattle suffering from LSD as many had no idea what to do in such a situation. He also appealed to the locals to not leave their cattle in panic as it will potentially increase the rate of the spread of the disease. He also directed the senior veterinary municipal officer, Dr. DC Tiwari, to take all possible measures against the spread of LSD in the city.  A viral disease that spreads fast, LSD has already wreaked havoc in Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab so far. The symptoms of this disease include nasal discharge followed by a high fever which may last for about six to seven days. Milk output decreases and lumps form on the body along with swelling of limbs.
