The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected the property tax of more than Rs seven crores since April. Apart from this, the corporation is also not imposing any penalty on the property taxpayers who did not deposit the tax of the last financial year by March.

Due to recurring Covid positive cases in the corporation since August, the collection of property tax has suffered considerably as for most of the days, the entry of the public was restricted in MCD premises, especially since the last month. Besides, the number of taxpayers depositing tax online had also dropped few months back and the numbers are still quite less but as per the officials, the online submission of property tax has increased recently and about 15 per cent of the total property tax collection is received through online mode. Moreover, the number of commercial property taxpayers is quite less this time of year than the last year due to the current pandemic, as per the officials. To provide some relaxation to the taxpayers in the current crisis, the corporation is not imposing any additional fine on the taxpayers who failed to submit property tax of the last year by March. The municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has appealed to people to deposit their property tax online while avoiding any physical contact with others in the corporation amid the pandemic rather than waiting to deposit the tax physically in the MCD premises.
