Wednesday, 20 July 2022 | PNS | Pauri

A leopard killed a woman when she was returning from her son’s school in the Dugadda block of Pauri district on Tuesday. Reena Devi (38) was killed near Godibari village at 8 AM while she was going home after dropping her son to school. Her body was found later in the woods nearby.

Angered by the killing, the villagers blocked the road in protest for hours and relented only after being assured of action by the Lansdowne divisional forest officer Dinkar Tiwari. The DFO told this correspondent that the woman had recently returned to her village from Delhi where her husband is employed.

Early on Tuesday morning she was walking back home after dropping her son at the government inter college in Dugadda when a leopard attacked her on the route and dragged her into the forest. The body was found in the forest. Tiwari said that the woman had taken a shortcut on her way home and was walking on a bridle path with considerable lantana bushes on the sides. He further informed that a cage will be placed in the area to trap the leopard, for which permission has been received from the chief wildlife warden. Compensation will be paid soon to the family of the victim.

The DFO has also appealed to the locals to avoid taking bridle paths and short cuts for some time.
